We hear a lot about gluten these days. Maybe a friend has gone gluten-free or a family member has been diagnosed with celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity. Gluten reactivity can hinder a person’s quality of life, and can even be life threatening if it is severe.
So, what exactly is gluten? Is it something you should give up, too? What is the difference between celiac disease and gluten sensitivity?
Dr. Greg Plotnikoff from the Penny George Institute for Health and Healing at Allina Health discusses what gluten is, why it can be a health concern, how easy it is to be gluten free, and what you need to know if you have a friend with gluten sensitivity. He joined KARE 11 News @4 to shed some light on the gluten controversy.
