L-R: Paul Galchutt, MPH, MDiv, BCC, Gregory A. Plotnikoff, MD, MTS, FACP & Catherine Duncan, MA, BCC
The chapter is titled Integrating Spiritual Assessment and Care and highlights seven steps for honoring and recognizing a patient’s religious and spiritual beliefs.
“Whole person medical care, by definition, integrates the religious and spiritual dimensions of the patient and the family.”
Topics include how to foster a patient’s spiritual history with deep listening, as well as how healing “as the resolution of brokenness may or may not include curing disease.”
The Integrative Medicine textbook is a compilation of 114 chapters over 968 pages. The renowned authors are practitioners who are nationally recognized for their expertise in both traditional and complementary medicine.
This highly regarded reference provides the practical, evidence-based guidance to safely and effectively integrate complementary and alternative medical treatments into a medical practice. Drawing on available scientific evidence and the authors’ first-hand experiences, the textbook covers therapies such as botanicals, supplements, mind-body, lifestyle choices, nutrition, exercise, spirituality, and other integrative medicine modalities.
MPM Founder and Medical Director Gregory A. Plotnikoff, MD, MTS, FACP also co-authored the chapter on hypertension with his colleague, Jeffrey A. Dusek, PhD. Details on this chapter will be featured in an upcoming blog post.
