Study: Yoga Practice Eases Lower Back Pain
March 8, 2016
A new British study has found that for many, yoga is better at treating lower back pain than other traditional treatments. The study followed more than 150 people who took a 12 week yoga course and compared them to another group the same size who received standard care from the UK’s national health service. Three months later, the yoga group could undertake 30% more activities than the others and reported less pain.
Dr. Gregory Plotnikoff, at Allina’s Penny George Institute for Health and Healing, says this study proves what he has thought for a long time. Lower back pain costs people in the U.S. $50 billion a year for medications and surgeries. Even though many people want a quick fix, we should address the underlying causes. Watch the report here.
